Your Quick & Simple Review: “Nope”

There’s nothing more frustrating to me, than when I go into a movie all hyped about how great a movie that I’ve been dying to see is, but then leave thinking… it was ok.  And that’s exactly what happened when I got to check out Jordan Peele’s new movie, Nope.

So what I liked about the film… the originality.  As many films as I watch, I can honestly say, Jordan Peele’s films are like no other.  Plus, he partners with some great talent who give great performances.  Once again, Academy Award Winner, Daniel Kaluuya, takes the lead, along with Keke Palmer.  Both deliver solid performances.  But the stand-out has to be our goofy tech guy, Angel Torres, played by Brandon Perea.

The two things I had problems with were, one, that it’s not a horror film like they said.  They had a moment when you might think, YUCK.  But that was pretty much it.  I think this one was more of a Sci-Fi/Thriller.  The creativity of this film at times has you scratching your head.  A few times I was like… wait, what?  It seemed that what they were trying to do/show was lost in the translation to me.

In the end, I will say that I did like the movie more than I didn’t, but not by much.  Mostly cause there were a few good moments, including one that I actually said out loud… “whaaat the hell is that?” Too bad there weren’t a whole lot more moments like that, cause then I would have loved it.
