Your Quick & Simple Review: “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”

First, I’ll start by saying that I’m a huge Ryan Reynolds movie fan.  Almost everything he puts out I’ll watch and enjoy.  Then he puts out The Hitman’s WIfe’s Bodyguard and his perfect record with me now has one in the loss column.  And I was really looking forward to this one being just as good as the first… it wasn’t.

Granted it wasn’t all bad.

Let’s start with the things I liked.  Salma Hayek.  I thought she was absolutely hilarious.  I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her in anything where she’s had such a “potty mouth”.  With some of the things she says in this movie, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.   The second thing I really liked, Morgan Freedman.  Because this movie was so bad, I kinda wish there was more of Morgan in it.  HIs role surprised me, and I thought it was pretty damn funny.  But the downside it could have been too much of a good thing, and lose it’s spark after a while.

Now here’s a couple of problems I had with the film.  The first one was a pretty good action film.  This one, not so much.  A couple of good scenes here and there, but very much a letdown.  And as the title says “Bodyguard”, there wasn’t much bodyguarding goin on in this one.  Just a lot of complaining that he (Reynolds) isn’t a bodyguard anymore.  As for Ryan, his character, Michael Bryce, seemed more like a reimagined version of Chris Brander, which was his character in 2005’s Just Friends.

Talk about a letdown…. Ughhhhh!!!

But I always believe that just because I didn’t care for it, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t.  “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” might just be your favorite film of the year.  As I said earlier, I’ve liked everything Reynolds has put out before, and they weren’t all warmly received either.  So get out, check it out and see for yourself.
